South Muskham Fisheries which was formerly known as A1 pits is now under new management and producing fish both of the stretch of the River Trent which it has, and also the lakes that are on site. Lake 1 is currently under development so there is no fishing.
On lakes 2 and 3 fish are being caught in lake 2 to 20lb and in lake 3 fish are being banked very often ranging from mid doubles to a reported 25lb fish. On these lakes the fish are catchable and easy to spot.
Lake four has been producing fish to high doubles and the current lake record is 26lb+.
Lake five is becoming very popular and this is mainly because of the reported number of twenty pound fish being landed and also because of the two 30lb+ fish being caught. Lake five has huge potential (along with lake six) to become a very good specimen carp water.
Lake six is also very popular with a reported 20+ twenties and 3 thirtys coming out over the period of 25/06/04 - 01/08/04. Fish are being caught often on the wind and can be seen very regularly in open water. The arm which separates the two ponds is very popular with the anglers however fish are being landed all over the lake.
River Trent, has been producing the odd carp to high doubles and the single figure bracket however there has been reports from anglers that there has been some very big looking fish cruising up and down the stretch with some fish looking like they could easily break the twenty pound barrier.
Ticket prices: At the start of the new river season (16/06/03) the day ticket price was raised by a pound, therefore the following prices to the fishery apply: £5 for 12hours, £10 for 24hours and for a weekend/ 48hours £20. Night fishing is now permitted on all lakes apart from lake 1.
Directions: Follow the A617 or the A616 to South Muskham north of Newark, or from the A1 leave at North Muskham and follow Church Lane towards South Muskham. The fishery entrance is on the left immediately after crossing the A1 and before the railway crossing, there is ample parking space and access all around the pits enabling you to park right in your swim.
