I have been using a running rig quite a bit this year and my catch rate has improved, i am using a 3oz lead is it worth stepping the weight up to 4oz or sticking to the 3oz weight.

As your using a running rig type set up, unless you want extra distance I don't feel you will gain much by increasing the weight, especially as it is not the weight that is hooking the fish, on saying this an extra ounce will be harder to dislodge, down to individual choice really or confidence levels.

Yes camo i am using a standard running rig set up (by Solar) i was using a 2oz lead but was told to step up to 3oz, which i have done and my catch rate has improved so i think i will stick to the 3oz as i am very confident with it.

When i was sorting out my running rig set up, i noticed that the run rings have a wear mark were the line has been rubbing. can i buy any other run ring that is not made of plastic. At the moment i am using solar running rig set up.

There is a new kid on the block called Matrix innovations they probably do them I will check it out for you or better still a silicone carbide ring would be perfect for the job I would have thought.

I was always under the impression that stepping up the weight would only aid distance, but as camo pointed out it does make sense in the fact that the extra weight will cut down the chances of the hook being dislodged. Worth giving a go next time as it seems to be working for Mark
