In one of the local carp mags a bloke caught a 14lb carp and it still had a full pole rig , elastic and a whole top section of a pole. What happen there could it have been a beginner at fishing ?

What a weird story, who knows what happened, I for one don't think Carp and poles anglers go together if for this reason alone. Their is no control unlike with rod & line.

I agree if your targetting carp over say 10lbs you should use a rod & line, not that i am againest using a pole. Although i never have used a pole its just not me i would rather use rod & line.

I do agree, most of the time i think that pole fishing is just a lazy way of fishing As the only excise that they get is taking the pole apart when they have a fish on Now thats got to be annoying to say the least, i mean what if your into a hungry shoal of roach or bream you would be taking those poles apart like a maniac ;D Your arms would be knacked and you would most probably faint from getting to hot ;D ;D WATER,WATER

Whats even mopre disturbing is the new craze amongst the competiton anglers who fish with the pole get a fish on, ship back the pole as fast as poss then litreally handline the fish in, making it alot quicker but not playing the fish just dragging it in, that is shocking

And to top it all off they put them in a keep net or should I say drop them in.

thats the one, down on my local pond they dont allow keepnets for anything, when you fish a comp everyone is given digital scales and a weigh sling, you weigh the person to the left's fish and then its put straight back, the pond dont contain anything really big 10lb tops i think and its got 90% carp in there 3-6lb most of them, much easier that way

I agree, the pole is a lazy way to fish, yesturday I was using a match rod. In the space of 4 hours I caught 1 roach and 2 pirch, I was getting fed up to say the least so I set up my pole and started pulling the out like mad.
It broke the boredom, but I wouldn't use it for a full sesion, I would feel like I had cheated, you can't beat a rod and reel.
PP.
